Interim Rector's Notes - November 30, 2017
It's Advent!  What are you waiting for?

The first season of the church year, Advent, starts this Sunday. One way or another, Advent marks a time of waiting.  A time of waiting for Christmas, marking off days with Advent calendars, or marking off weeks with candles on an Advent wreath.  Advent can also be observed as a time of waiting for the coming of Christ-God's longed-for intervention in human history.  The Old Testament reading for Sunday begins, "O that you would tear open the heavens and come down," (Isaiah 64:1)

So here's a prayer puzzle for you: If Christ has come, and Christ has died, and has risen, and has sent the Holy Spirit to sustain us, what exactly are we waiting for?

"See you in church,"

The Advent/Christmas/Epiphany Edition of The Matthean has been mailed to all households and is available by clicking HERE

Saturday December 2
Come join the Altar Guild of St. Matthew's for a sanctuary clean up. We'll prepare for Advent by polishing the brass and silver, wiping down the pews, unwrapping the creche, and hanging the wreaths. All are welcome. Many hands make light work. 10-Noon.
Also, all children and youth are welcome to help make the giant advent wreath that hangs in the sanctuary, 11-noon in the undercroft.
