Where there is charity and wisdom, there is neither fear nor ignorance. Francis of Assisi   The Collect for the Feast of St. Francis: Most high, omnipotent, good Lord, grant your people grace to renounce gladly the vanities of this world; that, following the way of blessed Francis, we may for love of you delight in your whole creation with perfectness of joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

One of the most gut wrenching and yet most inspirational experiences in my life occurred back in the 1980 's. HIV/Aids was a new misunderstood social issue that hit at the core of our humanity. Initially it was considered a gay only problem and often thought of as a punishment from God for something we really didn't understand. Then one day we heard about a young 13 year old boy. He caught it because of a blood transfusion. When he surfaced as infected with positive aids he was vilified by his town and banned from attending school and not allowed any contact with his friends. He became a symbol of the true misunderstanding of this terrible affliction. He toured the country trying to educate us and remove the stigma from all those infected. This poor young man died in 1990 at the age of 18. His name was Ryan White. I was deeply affected by what had happened to him and so discouraged because of the callousness of the way he was treated . This cartoon appeared in the Boston Globe at the time of his passing and it was a relief for me. It reminded  me of what my faith in what God was all about. I knew that in the end he was there to make things right. So much to think about!!! Thank you Lord.    Roger Fortier, Sexton

O Gracious Light     Phos hilaron   BCP p.118   O gracious Light pure brightness of the everliving Father in heaven, O Jesus Christ, holy and blessed! Now as we come to the setting of the sun, and our eyes behold the vesper light, we sing your praises, O God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.   You are worthy at all times to be praised by happy voices, O Son of God, O Giver of life, and to be glorified through all the worlds.   Just over 100 friends of St. Matthew's Church gathered at dusk this past Friday to celebrate our 150 years of ministry in Goffstown.  The church began in darkness and candle by candle was lit, brightening the space with light and prayers. Many thanks to our leadership (past and present) who have moved St. Matthew's forward by answering 'yes' to the calling question of 'who me?'    If you were not able to join us, click HERE to view the service led by Bishop Rob Hirschfeld & Rev.   "Everything has its time - For every thing there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven"  Ecclesiastes 3:15   Today I was gazing at a stately maple tree in our front yard and noticed that the leaves, bearing tints of yellow, were quivering in the breeze. It was as though the tree was holding its breath for as long as it could knowing that if it exhaled its leaves would turn to crimson and loose themselves falling silently to the ground as a harbinger of winter. But when that happens the carpet of brilliant color becomes transformational. Spring will come again all in good time. We need to trust change for it sometimes circles back and gives us another chance.   What are you holding your breath to prevent from happening? Take a chance and let go. The change just might just be glorious.   Joan Alayne Stevens
