Interim Rector's Notes - June 1, 2017
The church will be adorned in red, the color of fire, this Sunday to symbolize the Holy Spirit, whose coming we celebrate on Pentecost. On that day the gathered disciples were set on fire when the Spirit came into their room with the sound of rushing wind. Tongues of flame landed on each of them, and they began speaking in many tongues. Fire, wind, and words! The very breath of God.
"See you in church!"
Please note the office is CLOSED TODAY, June 1.

Don't forget to wear red to church on June 4, (Pentecost)! It's the color of the Holy Spirit, our guest of honor on that day.
|Yard & Bake Sale - Saturday June 3
Bring your really good 'stuff' to the Outreach trailer (arriving May 16), bake up a storm, or volunteer a couple hours between 6am and 2 pm. Volunteers are needed to help on Saturday morning between 6 -9 am, 9am-Noon, and Noon-2pm (or as your schedule allows). Folks will help set up, then supervise tables, greet customers and old friends, and to help with the food table and grill. A sign-up sheet will be available at Coffee Hour weeks prior to the event. It's a good day for a great cause.
While the weather looks to be good, if you are volunteering and have a pop up canopy, please bring it along, just in case!

In honor of St. Matthew's Church approaching 150th Anniversary, each week there will be a piece of history shared. Did you know...
On February 1, 1917, the Vestry stated that at all church funerals the sexton should act as the director. On October 14, 1917, the meeting was interesting in that it was voted to dispense with services on the second Sunday of each month so that the rector would be free to work elsewhere.
