Interim Rector's Notes - July 6, 2017
"Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28
What a great message for a Sunday in the peak of summer! Come on Sunday and take a break with us.
See you in church!
Keeping a Safe Church
Please remember that no children should be left unsupervised in any part of the church, including the nursery and the undercroft. The reason for this requirement is not that we're worried about the children's behavior! It's because we want to keep them safe from others who may come on the premises. Don't forget that the sounds of children in church-even unruly ones-are music to our ears! Celeste+
Ginny Frechette, Rest in Peace
Ginny Frechette, whom many remember from her work with the Network Food Pantry at Thanksgiving and Christmas, died on June 29th at Eliot Hospital. She had been receiving home Communion from our Eucharistic Visitors for the past year. Funeral services are being held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Burlington VT on July 6th.
The parish wide meeting held 2 weeks ago was to discuss the future calling of our new rector. The Vestry has been concerned that higher pledged income will be needed in 2018 if we are to call a full time rector with full benefits. Negotiations with candidates will likely take place before our autumn stewardship campaign. All members should have received a mailing last week with a cover letter and some graphs to help show you the current financial situation. The vestry needs to know now what you hope to pledge to support the church next year. If you have any questions feel free to call Lauren Tennett, Treasurer 384-1623 or Angie Battey, Sr. Warden 486-9151.
Search Team Prayer: Loving God, giver of all good gifts, guide us throughout our time of transition. Open our hearts and minds as we search for our new rector. Empower each one of us to use our unique gifts in ministry, to share openly and honestly our thoughts, to respect the opinions of others, and to encourage humility, patience and joy. Keep watch over the one you have chosen for us while you instill in us a vision of the Church's family; that, guided by your Holy Spirit, we will be united in love and joyfully accomplish our mission through Jesus Christ our Lord.
In honor of St. Matthew's Church approaching 150th Anniversary, each week there will be a piece of history shared. Did you know...
In July 1984, Brother Christian Paul Williams entered the Brotherhood of St. Gregory, a contemporary religious community in the Episcopal Church, as his life profession. Its members live under a common rule and membership is open to both clergy and laity, married and single. The Brotherhood is multi-vocational, and in the secular world, the theme of servanthood is emphasized through work in teaching, nursing, counseling and administration. Brother Christian was an active member of St. Matthew's Church until his death in 2007.
Blessing of 34 Pine Hill Ave.: Please join me, Deb McCarter, and Rev. Celeste Hemingson for a blessing of my new home at 34 Pine Hill Ave. in Manchester, NH at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 9. I would welcome the fellowship of the community as I begin this new phase of my life's journey, grateful for the provision of a home. After the blessing I'll even serve iced tea, lemonade and a few snacks!
Please do not bring any gift other than your friendship, support and prayers.
