Interim Rector's Notes - July 27, 2017
In the Gospel lesson this Sunday Jesus teaches about treasures of the Kingdom of God, and concludes with these words:
"Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like the master of a household who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old." Matthew 13:52.
Interim ministry is a lot like a treasure hunt: discovering hidden treasure, conserving old treasures, and acquiring new ones. What old and new treasures have you discovered at St. Matthew's? What old ones are looking new because they have been conserved and renewed?
Our 150th Anniversary celebration will open our treasure chest for all to appreciate and give thanks for. Plan to join us for our festive Evensong service on Friday, September 29 at 7PM.
"See you in church,"
Sunday School Program offered in the undercroft beginning July 16 - August 13.
If someone has an old laptop computer sitting around, please know I have someone in need of one. It only needs to be able to run a word processing program. Contact the office, 497-2003, if you have one to donate. Many thanks.

The Immigrant/Refugee Experience
Tuesday, August 15 at 6:00 pm
Join the Goffstown Public Library for a documentary and discussion tackling the issues of belonging and citizenship.
Uprooted: Heartache and Hope in New Hampshire is a 30 minute documentary following the story of 5 refugees who were resettled in NH. Produced by the Center for the Humanities at the University of New Hampshire, the film explores what it means to be a refugee and how it feels to make a new life in a strange place.
A Q&A session will immediately follow the film. Guest speakers Tilak Niroula and Suraj Budathoki, recipients of the Union Leader's 40 Under 40 Award, will share their experiences as Bhutanese refugees who now make their home in this state.

In honor of St. Matthew's Church approaching 150th Anniversary, each week there will be a piece of history shared. Did you know...
The Rev. A.E. Bowles was called to become rector of St. Matthew's Church following the regular monthly meeting of the Vestry on Thursday, February 5, 1914. In the minutes for January 7, 1915, we see for the first time the title of the rector as "Fr. Bowles."
Search Team status:
1) We identified software that we will use to conduct video interviews with prospective rectors.
2) We have run a few trial sessions to make sure the software is working well and that everyone understands how to use it.
3) We will soon schedule a mock interview to further prove the setup.
4) We're waiting for confirmation from the vestry on the rector compensation package (see paragraph below)
5) We're waiting for the first resumes to be forwarded from the diocese.
Search Team Prayer: Loving God, giver of all good gifts, guide us throughout our time of transition. Open our hearts and minds as we search for our new rector. Empower each one of us to use our unique gifts in ministry, to share openly and honestly our thoughts, to respect the opinions of others, and to encourage humility, patience and joy. Keep watch over the one you have chosen for us while you instill in us a vision of the Church's family; that, guided by your Holy Spirit, we will be united in love and joyfully accomplish our mission through Jesus Christ our Lord.
