Interim Rector's Notes - July 20, 2017

This Sunday, while Flat Matt and I are on a retreat with the Society of St. John the Evangelist, Deb McCarter will lead the office of Morning Prayer.  Not so long ago, many Episcopal churches had Morning Prayer instead of Holy Eucharist two or three Sundays a month.  Many who remember those days miss Morning Prayer because of the many beautiful prayers and canticles (poetry) that are included in the service.  Come and experience this other way of celebrating the Lord's Day.

Festive Evensong to celebrate our
150th Anniversary.

In honor of St. Matthew's Church approaching 150th Anniversary, each week there will be a piece of history shared.  Did you know...

Electric lights were installed in St. Matthew's Church in 1900, and in 1924 Kenneth Hambleton gifted the Church with electric fixtures.

Search Team status:
1) We identified software that we will use to conduct video interviews with prospective rectors.
2) We have run a few trial sessions to make sure the software is working well and that everyone understands how to use it.
3) We will soon schedule a mock interview to further prove the setup.
4) We're waiting for confirmation from the vestry on the rector compensation package (see paragraph below)
5) We're waiting for the first resumes to be forwarded from the diocese.

Search Team Prayer:  Loving God, giver of all good gifts, guide us throughout our time of transition.  Open our hearts and minds as we search for our new rector.  Empower each one of us to use our unique gifts in ministry, to share openly and honestly our thoughts, to respect the opinions of others, and to encourage humility, patience and joy.  Keep watch over the one you have chosen for us while you instill in us a vision of the Church's family; that, guided by your Holy Spirit, we will be united in love and joyfully accomplish our mission through Jesus Christ our Lord.
