Interim Rector's Notes - July 13, 2017
Garden greetings to you all! I harvested my first (3) cherry tomatoes today. We're starting to see first fruits, for sure. This Sunday we'll hear the parable of the sower, Matthew 13:1-9. But I wonder....is it about the sowing, or the reaping? Come and wonder along with me.
"See you in church,"
Sunday School Program offered in the undercroft beginning July 16 - August 13.
Keeping a Safe Church - Please remember that no children should be left unsupervised in any part of the church, including the nursery and the undercroft. The reason for this requirement is not that we're worried about the children's behavior! It's because we want to keep them safe from others who may come on the premises. Don't forget that the sounds of children in church are music to our ears! Celeste+
Search Team status:
1) We identified software that we will use to conduct video interviews with prospective rectors.
2) We have run a few trial sessions to make sure the software is working well and that everyone understands how to use it.
3) We will soon schedule a mock interview to further prove the setup.
4) We're waiting for confirmation from the vestry on the rector compensation package (see paragraph below)
5) We're waiting for the first resumes to be forwarded from the diocese.
The parish wide meeting held last month was to discuss the future calling of our new rector. The Vestry has been concerned that higher pledged income will be needed in 2018 if we are to call a full time rector with full benefits. Negotiations with candidates will likely take place before our autumn stewardship campaign. All members should have received a mailing with a cover letter and some graphs to help show you the current financial situation. The vestry needs to know now what you hope to pledge to support the church next year. If you have any questions feel free to call Lauren Tennett, Treasurer 384-1623 or Angie Battey, Sr. Warden 486-9151.
Search Team Prayer: Loving God, giver of all good gifts, guide us throughout our time of transition. Open our hearts and minds as we search for our new rector. Empower each one of us to use our unique gifts in ministry, to share openly and honestly our thoughts, to respect the opinions of others, and to encourage humility, patience and joy. Keep watch over the one you have chosen for us while you instill in us a vision of the Church's family; that, guided by your Holy Spirit, we will be united in love and joyfully accomplish our mission through Jesus Christ our Lord.
This shot no doubt reflects Barbie waiting for Ken. Gayle Feick dresses the window at the CCC. The CCC sells wedding gowns and other formal wear.
We are in need of a volunteer to take over the 1st Saturday of every month from 10 am to noon. If you are willing or if you know of a potential new volunteer please let me know. The first date for this shift is Saturday, August 6th.

In honor of St. Matthew's Church approaching 150th Anniversary, each week there will be a piece of history shared. Did you know...
As St. Matthew's Church was being constructed, the William A. Johnson Organ Co. of Westfield, Mass was commissioned to build its new pipe organ. The Opus 308 was designed and built for the new church and was installed in 1869. It was of superior quality and workmanship, containing 12 ranks of pipes, 2 manuals of 58 notes, with a 25-note pedal board, at a cost of $1,600. Mr. Rodney Johnson retained ownership of the organ until 1902, when he and his wife donated it to the church in memory of their son Frank who suffered an untimely death at a young age due to lockjaw from an accident.
