Parish Notes - February 15, 2018
We are officially in the Season of Lent in which we walk our pilgrimage through the wilderness of our lives to the clarifying events of Holy Week and Easter. We do this as individuals and as a community. In addition to Sunday morning worship, there are a good number of ways your pilgrimage can be guided and buoyed this Lent:
One way is to come along on Thursday evenings (starting next Thursday, Feb. 22nd) and join in on our Adult Ed Lenten offering (more details below). Linnae and I are facilitating this program and we are excited! For those who can join us for dinner from 6-7, we will have a time of fellowship. The program will be from 7-8:30. We are meeting in the undercroft of the church. I hope you can join us.
Another way is to remember than we are allowed to celebrate life - even in Lent! To that end, please join us for a Celebration of New Ministry together next Saturday, Feb. 24th at 1pm (followed by a reception). My dear friend Leah Torrey will preach and the bishop will preside at this service. Let's celebrate our new life together and all that St. Matt's means to us. Child care will be provided (See info below on this, too).
Lent is a time to take stock and make changes that will help us be more fully whom God has created us to be and to help us, as a community, to be at our best for the sake of God's kingdom.
The third Sunday of the month is dedicated to outreach. The loose plate offering will go to the St. Matthew's Discretionary Fund. Food will be collected for the Goffstown Network Backpack program. The Social Justice Committee meets at 11:15am in the parish house. Parish Breakfast is served 8:45am-9:30am.

|Lenten Series Offered
The Rev. Nancy Vogele and Linnae Peterson, M.Div., will be facilitating the Lenten Series - Meeting Jesus In John, created by the Society of St. John the Evangelist. We will meet on Thursdays in Lent, starting with a simple dinner from 6-7pm, with the educational program from 7-8:30pm. All are welcome to come whether they can join in for dinner or just the educational session. Please let Nancy or Linnae know if you have any questions or if you would like a booklet for the series.
Have you ever wished to deepen your relationship with God? To experience a warm friendship with God? Maybe even fall in love with God - again - or for the very first time?
With a beautiful prayer journal
, facilitation guidance for small groups
(and more) from the Center for the Ministry of Teaching, and videos from the monks of SSJE, Meeting Jesus is a six-week journey and reflection on the Gospel According to John, starting Lent 2018.
Got 2 hours a month to spare?
The Community Clothing Center needs three good souls to each take a 2-Hour a month shift. Two people are needed as a Key Person (shift leader). The dates are the 4th Wednesday 6-8pm and the 2nd Thursday 3-5pm. The Key Person opens, handles the cash sales and justifies the money, supervises the volunteers and closes. Training and support are provided. The third person needed is permanent Floor Person on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, to put new clothes out, remove hangers, and assist clients.
Help! Please contact the office or Sharon or Joan Alayne for more information. Thank you!
2018 Lenten Program
"Becoming Beloved Community"
The Episcopal Church of New Hampshire is honored to partner with the Black Heritage Trail of NH
to offer a collection of short readings on little known historic figures from NH's African American community for our 2018 Lenten Program.
For each day in Lent, beginning on Ash Wednesday, February 14th, we will publish these stories to help educate us all on what we have never been taught. They will help us to see the impact and contributions of African Americans who have shaped our lives together as a community.

Come meet The Rev. Nancy Vogele and her partner Lynn Feenan. These sessions offer an informal setting in which to get to know Nancy and for her to get to know us.
