Parish Notes - December 28, 2017
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven. -Ecclesiastes 3:1
Once again we are on the verge of a transition at St. Matthew's Church.
This Sunday will be Celeste's last service with us as our Interim Rector.  Over the last 18 months, she has guided us spiritually and has also guided us to a place of understanding.  The understanding is that we are all St. Matthew's.  Each and every one of us play an important part in accomplishing the mission of the church and the mission of the Kingdom of God.  She has readied us for our future.
She has shown us the strength we have, and how much we accomplish and can continue to accomplish for our church and our community.  We will miss her and she will always be a part of
St. Matthew's.  Her mark on us will not be soon forgotten.  We wish her well as she moves on to her next interim position.
Please join us this Sunday, December 31 at 9am as we say goodbye.

How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.  -Winnie the Pooh
Angie Battey, Sr. Warden
We close out the calendar year with the great hymn of John: In the beginning was the Word....  (John 1:1-18)  It's all about the Incarnation-God becoming human and abiding with us.  But within the poem, words become incarnate in each other.

"Word" and "God" and "Light" and "Life" are all shown to be part of each other. Come and abide in this wholeness-a wholeness in which we all share.

All of which inspires me to share a "word" with you.  Thank you for allowing me to abide with you during this past eighteen months.  We have shared words, light, life, and a knowledge and love of God with each other.  If you can't join me in church on this, my last Sunday, please know how much I appreciate all you have given me.
 "See you in church,"
Rehearsal for the Epiphany Play is this Saturday from 10am-Noon. There are still parts available for those interested. Come one, come all!

Parking Reminder
Please, please do not park at Sully's while the store is open.
There is parking available on Sundays at the library, on street, and behind the laundromat for St. Matthew's parishioners to utilize. Sully's needs it's parking spaces for it's customers. Thank you.

Intrepid Snow Shovelers Needed!
Believe it or not, Winter is here!
During winter weather events, our driveway and parking areas are cleared by our contracted snow plow operator.
The remaining snow removal chores need to be performed after each storm  with occasional touch-up before scheduled building use.
These chores include:
  • Clear walkways, ramps  and entry ways
  • Clear Emergency exits
  • Apply Ice-melt on stairs and ramps to avoid slippery surfaces
There is a snow-blower available for the larger storms.
We would like to establish a revolving list for these chores.
With the expected snowfall this coming week, it is our hope that a list can be setup so that the chores do not become burdensome.  Also, our hope is the list would provide a backup in case the current person was unavailable during a storm.
If you are interested in helping out, please get in touch with Eric Battey, Vestry for Buildings & Grounds ( or send a message to the Parish Office.
