Interim Rector's Notes - December 21, 2017

Merry Christmas, my brothers and sisters in Christ!
And, also-"Season's Greetings!"

I know, that form of "politically-correct" greeting offends many Christians who assume that, because we are the majority in our culture, the Christmas message is the only one shoppers need to hear, regardless of their own faith tradition.

Regardless of whether it's actually Christmas yet, but that's another story.....

But I'm sending you both greetings this week because due to our secular calendar, on this Sunday, December 24 we're celebrating two seasons of the church calendar: Advent in the morning, and Christmas in the evening. After the morning Gospel account of the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary that she will bear a son who will save the world, the altar guild will be at work adorning our worship space in the Christmas tapestry.

Two seasons in one day! Expectation and Joy. Nine months of pregnancy compressed into a mere nine hours.
In our busy world where time flies faster and faster, please take time to notice the change of seasons.

Forgotten Cookies - Many have asked about the meringue cookies I brought to church last week.  They're called "Forgotten" cookies because you put them in the oven, turn the oven off after a few minutes and forget them.  But for me, they were forgotten because my mother used to make them with dates and pecans, and I never asked the name or the recipe. But recently I found one in a magazine. Google "Forgotten Cookies" and you'll find  many recipes for them online.  You can add a wide variety of sweets to the meringue.  Celeste+

At the time of publishing this, the weather is looking questionable for Christmas morning 10am worship. If the service needs to be cancelled a constant contact message will be sent by 8am.

The Advent/Christmas/Epiphany Edition of The Matthean has been mailed to all households and is available by clicking HERE

Please note some January dates:
The Book Group has been changed from January 11 TO January 25. Same time, 7pm. See Linnae Peterson for more info.

Intrepid Snow Shovelers Needed!

Believe it or not, Winter is here!

During winter weather events, our driveway and parking areas are cleared by our contracted snow plow operator.
The remaining snow removal chores need to be performed after each storm  with occasional touch-up before scheduled building use.

These chores include:
  • Clear walkways, ramps  and entry ways
  • Clear Emergency exits
  • Apply Ice-melt on stairs and ramps to avoid slippery surfaces
There is a snow-blower available for the larger storms.

We would like to establish a revolving list for these chores.

With the expected snowfall this coming week, it is our hope that a list can be setup so that the chores do not become burdensome.  Also, our hope is the list would provide a backup in case the current person was unavailable during a storm.

If you are interested in helping out, please get in touch with Eric Battey, Vestry for Buildings & Grounds (ebattey61@gmail.com) or send a message to the Parish Office.
